Recommendation 1: Have at least one staff member attend the Tutorology strand at Summer Institute and develop a sharing opportunity with AVID elective teachers and tutors.
Evidence:
- 2011-2012 we added a seventh grade AVID Elective class. The teacher for this class attended Implementation and one other teacher attended Tutorology at Summer Institute.
- 2012-2013 we added an eighth grade AVID Elective class and had three new AVID Elective teachers. Trexler sent two teachers to Implementation and one to Tutorology at Summer Institute.
- 2013-2014 we added two new AVID Elective teachers and both attended Implementation. In January 2014, all five AVID Elective teachers attended AVID Tutorology Path Training presented by the AVID Center and hosted by Onslow County Schools.
- 2014-2015 we added an additional sixth grade AVID class with a teacher who attended Implementation last summer and Critical Reading Path Training in January 2014. This summer she attended Tutorology alongside our coordinator.
- To refine the tutorials we utilize the videos from the MyAVID.org
- Utilize the Instructional Coach to model and team teach the tutorial processes and procedures.
- Tutor/Tutorial observations for feedback and improvement.
- Monthly site team meeting discussions with a tutorial focus
Recommendation 2: Continue to refine higher level reflections as an integral part of the tutorial process.
Evidence:
- Tutorial training for students, teachers review how to write higher level reflections.
- Each tutorial process ends with sharing reflections for feedback and growth
- Periodically during the year, AVID Elective teachers review reflections by modeling and reteaching.
